NPCF Pet Parent Terms and Conditions

Effective Date: June 1, 2024                             Date of Last Update: June 1, 2024

Introduction: These Terms and Conditions (the “Terms”) govern the NPCF Pet Parent program (the “Program”) offered by the National Pet Care Fund (“NPCF”). By becoming an NPCF Pet Parent (“Pet Parent”), you agree to abide by these Terms.

1.     Application and Approval:

To be eligible for the Program, you must (i) be a resident of Canada; (ii) meet the Low Income Cut-off (LICO) guidelines established by Statistics Canada; and (iii) provide documentation demonstrating financial need for covering urgent medical care for a companion animal.

To become a Pet Parent, you must submit a Pet Parent application with accurate and up-to-date information regarding your financial situation and pet ownership status. NPCF will verify your eligibility through the documentation you provide. NPCF reserves the right to request additional documentation as needed in order to process your application.

2.     Grant Application Process:

Once approved as a Pet Parent, you may apply for grants in accordance with NPCF guidelines. Grant applications will be evaluated based on the type of medical procedure, medical urgency, financial need, and available funds, and otherwise in accordance with NPCF guidelines. If approved, NPCF may provide partial payment for the approved treatment at its sole discretion.

3.     Consent for Grant Disbursement:

By applying for a grant, you consent to NPCF disbursing funds directly to the veterinary clinic performing the procedure. You agree that the veterinary clinic will be informed of your status as a Pet Parent. For more information on NPCF’s collection, use and disclosure of your personal information in connection with the Program, please see our Privacy Policy.

4.     Pet Stories:

NPCF may request your permission to publish your pet’s story to promote the Program. Published stories may include the pet’s name (real or fictitious), descriptions of the medical need, the location (city or region), a photo (if provided), and the grant amount. Personal identifying information will not be included without your express consent. Consent can be withdrawn at any time by contacting NPCF.

5.     Accuracy and Integrity:

You must provide accurate and truthful information in your applications. Inaccuracies, omissions, or fraudulent representations may result in denial or revocation of status as a Pet Parent or grants. NPCF reserves the right to take action, including legal proceedings, to recover funds or address fraudulent behaviour.

6.     Termination of Pet Parent Status:

NPCF reserves the right to terminate status as a Pet Parent for violations of these Terms or conduct detrimental to NPCF’s objectives. Examples of detrimental conduct include fraud, misuse of funds, and other actions undermining the Program’s integrity.

7.     Governing Law:

These Terms are governed by the laws of Quebec, Canada. Any disputes arising out of these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

8.     Changes to these Terms:

NPCF may modify or update these Terms at any time. Where required by law, we will make reasonable efforts to provide at least 30 days’ notice prior to any material revisions taking effect, which will set out the text of the amended clause of these Terms and the date the changes will come into force. You will then have a further 30 days after such entry into force to cancel your status as a Pet Parent. What constitutes a material change will be determined at NPCF’s sole discretion. Changes will be communicated via email or through the NPCF website.
